The Kernoodle 2026 calendar began as two things at once: a passion project and a proof of concept for a modular typeface I designed called Kernoodle.
The modular typeface was created with the pieces from the board game Kanoodle. Each letter was built entirely from those game pieces, with two constraints guiding every decision: no piece could be used more than once per letter, and every letterform had to fit within the game's 5×5 grid.
Once the typeface was finished, I wanted to push it further. That desire arrived alongside a personal one: after so much time working on screens, I was eager to create something physical. A 2026 calendar felt like the perfect fit because of its modular nature with tons of room for expression and experimentation.
After many iterations, I landed on a split-section tearaway format. Thin, translucent paper was chosen for the weekly pages, creating a frosted layering effect hinting at the weeks to come. Thick cardstock anchors the monthly spreads, the color palette shifts with each month, drawing inspiration from the seasons, weather, holidays, and the particular emotional texture of that time of year, making every page turn feel intentional.
Everything in this calendar was made from scratch, by hand. From the custom-cut acrylic backing and metal hanging bar, down to the octagon hole punches. No detail was too small to consider, and no shortcuts were taken. The result is something that couldn't exist any other way: entirely original, entirely intentional, and made to last well beyond the year it carries.
